Capacity building for Cameroonian parliamentarians on tax fairness, illicit financial flows (IFFs) and the “Stop The Bleeding” Campaign

As Cameroon moves towards development, it faces major challenges such as tax evasion, illicit financial flows and tax injustice. These have a serious impact on the country's economic and social advancement and undermine the mobilisation of domestic resources needed to finance essential public services and reduce inequalities. Political decision-makers therefore need to be informed and made aware of these crucial issues so that they can make an effective commitment to remedying the situation.

As part of the 2023 work plan of the "Strengthening Tax Justice in Cameroon" Phase III project, led by CRADEC, with financial support from TJNA/NORAD, a capacity-building workshop for Cameroonian parliamentarians and other stakeholders such as civil society organisations and the media on tax fairness, illicit financial flows (IFFs) and the "Stop The Bleeding" campaign was held on 11 November 2023 at Merina Hotel.

The training enabled parliamentarians who are members of the Cameroon caucus of APNIFFT (African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation) to be sensitised and trained on the key concepts of tax fairness and IFFs, as well as their impact on Cameroon, international tax mechanisms and the harmful practices that fuel IFFs, and thus to commit to supporting the "Stop The Bleeding" Campaign and to taking concrete action to combat IFFs at national and international level.
