OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE REPORT ON BENEFICIAL OWNERSHIP TO THE CAMEROONIAN GOVERNMENT

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Mérina Hotel, we presented the report on the transparency of beneficial owners of businesses. This report, jointly developed by the Cameroonian civil society and the British organization Tax Justice Network, marks a crucial step in our efforts to combat illicit financial flows, tax evasion, and corruption.

This initiative follows the introduction of the 2023 Finance Law in Cameroon, which now requires companies to declare their beneficial owners.

The event brought together government, civil society, and media representatives to discuss measures to strengthen the effectiveness of beneficial ownership transparency. Among the topics addressed, we will examine:

👉 The importance of transparency in recovering lost tax revenues and combating illicit financial flows.

👉 Progress made in Cameroon under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

👉 The necessary measures to strengthen the legal framework, improve verification mechanisms, and ensure access to information.

👉 The importance of collaboration among various stakeholders for successful implementation.

We would like to thank all the participants and speakers who contributed to the success of this event, especially Jean Mballa Mballa from the African Regional Center for Endogenous and Community Development (CRADEC), Njutapvoui Idriss Linge from Tax Justice Network, and Charlie Martial NGOUNOU from AfroLeadership. Their interventions enriched the dicussions and shed light on the importance of beneficial ownership transparency.
